Sometimes we need a little metaphysical help with a tricky situation.
There’s a co-worker trying to sabotage you at work.
You’re finally ready to get back in the dating game.
You’re worried about some health concerns and waiting to hear back from the doctor.
All of these scenarios are different, but one way to focus your energy on getting what you want is to make an altar where you can focus your energy and intentions on what you want and call on the help of energies of other realms whether you recognize that to be God, spirit guides, ancestors or other supernatural beings.
If you’re looking for a way to make your spiritual beliefs a part of your everyday life, an easy way to do so is to make an altar at home.
The power of spiritual altars
Creating an altar is a fantastic way to bring a bit of magic and mindfulness into your everyday life. Plus, it’s super personal, and you can set it up however you want. Here’s a quick guide to what you might need and why these items can be so meaningful.
1. Candles.
Candles are a must-have for any altar as they represent illumination, spiritual presence, and the element of fire. You can even choose different colors to vibe with different energies. White candles for purity and black ones for protection—you get the drift. They bring a warm, magical glow to your space.).
2. Crystals.
Crystals aren’t just pretty but they also pack a punch with their metaphysical properties. Whether you need some spiritual wisdom (thanks, amethyst!) or a little extra love (hello, rose quartz!), crystals have got your back.
3. Incense and Burners.
Burning incense on your altar at home purifies the space, sets the mood, and connects you to the spiritual realm. It also represents the element of air.
Statues of Deities and Saints.
If you have a favorite deity or saint, consider placing their statue or image on your altar. These serve as focal points for worship and meditation, helping you channel their divine energies.
5. Bells.
Bells aren’t just cute decorations. Ring them to cleanse the energy in your space, signal the beginning or end of a ritual, or call upon spiritual entities.
6. Water Bowl.
A simple water bowl can mean so much. It represents the element of water, symbolizing emotions, intuition, and the subconscious mind. Perfect for cleansing and purification rituals too.
7. Offering Bowls.
Offering bowls are a sweet addition to your altar. Use them to make offerings of food, flowers, or other symbolic items to deities or spirits. It’s a beautiful way to reflect gratitude and devotion.).
8. Sacred Texts or Books.
Placing some spiritual or religious texts on your altar can make a difference. They encourage study and reflection, invoking the wisdom within these writings.
9. Plants or Earth Elements.
Adding plants or earth-related items to your altar can be an excellent way to symbolize the earth element. Consider small potted plants, fresh herbs, or even a bowl filled with dirt or sand. These items not only represent groundedness and stability but also bring a touch of nature into your sacred space. A small piece of wood or a miniature statue made of clay can also be a great addition. Each of these items anchors your altar, balancing the other elements.
This list isn’t all-inclusive. You can include anything on an altar altar at home that is meaningful for you. For example, one of the ways that my father sends me messages from the other side is through dragonflies, so they figure prominently on my altar. Also, some people include pictures of their ancestors on the other side to help open the lines of communication between those two worlds.
Setting up an altar at home isn’t just about the aesthetics; it’s about creating a personalized space to connect with your spiritual side. Give it a shot and watch how it transforms your daily rituals.
