Do These 3 Things During Eclipse Season

Posted on by Mara Enid

I used to dread eclipse season. I mean really dread eclipse season.

In astrology, eclipse season is a period (usually about 6–8 weeks long) when the Sun is near the lunar nodes. As a result, solar and lunar eclipses occur during those weeks. These seasons happen roughly twice a year, and astrologers see them as times of fated events, revelations, endings, and beginnings.

Read that last sentence again, and you should understand why I dreaded these periods. As much as we all talk about how we want things to change in our lives, in my experience most of us find change scary. And if you follow mundane astrology, the study of how astrology applies to world events, you’d see all kinds of examples of major world events such as assassinations, earthquakes and other disasters happening during eclipse seasons. The fate part also suggests that we have little control over events that take place during eclipses. (In reality, we don’t have control over many aspects of life but eclipses seem to emphasize this point, often bringing about major turning points in our lives.)

Earlier this year, the first eclipse season took place in March and April in the signs of Virgo and Aries. The second eclipse season of 2025 takes place pretty much throughout the month of September in the signs of Pisces and Virgo. If you have astrological placements in Pisces and Virgo (My sun sign is in Virgo and my rising sign is Pisces) this eclipse may be particularly impactful or meaningful for you.

So back to the dread. I’ve finally gotten over my fear of eclipse season because even though they often bring about endings, they also have been known to spark new beginnings. They also wield a beautiful power. Solar eclipses are in essence new moons (new beginnings) on steroids while lunar eclipses are similarly full moons amplified.

So now rather than dread eclipses, I lean into them. You can do the same by doing these three things.

Practice the art of surrender. There’s a time to exert your will and there’s a time to allow the forces of the Universe to have their way. When there’s an eclipse it’s better to do the latter. Astrologically speaking, eclipses are times in which events take place outside of our control. Major turning points are common, and you may find yourself led down an unfamiliar road. If you make major plans or launch new efforts during eclipse period, you may be fighting against the tide of something that you have no control over. By allowing events to transpire naturally (without your intervention) during eclipse season, you’re basically allowing the wind to push you where you need to (which it’s going to do whether you surrender to it or not.)

Look for clues to your next big thing. Just because you’re surrendering, that doesn’t mean that you’re doing nothing. On the contrary. Instead, you want to pay attention to what’s happening around you during eclipse time. That can give you a clue about the next big thing that’s set to enter your life. Pay special attention to whether certain aspects of your life wrap up or come to an ending. Also note anything new that enters your life during this time.

You might also do this quick tarot spread:

Choose two cards with one representing what’s leaving your life this eclipse season and a second one representing what’s entering your life. You might be surprised by what you learn.

Get extra rest. The third thing to do this eclipse season — and any eclipse season — is to get more rest than usual. Eclipse energy can be draining. You may feel some of the effects of eclipse season in the form of fatigue, brain fog or other physical draws of your energy.
